Position Summary

Reporting to the Associate Dean, School of Interdisciplinary Studies, the incumbent will assist students enrolled in the CICE program to maximize their learning potential.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assists in the transition to College life, including liaising between students and College resources (Financial Aid, Health & Equitable Learning supports, Student Advisors)  
  • Advocates for students’ modified course outcomes, tests and assignments, where required
  • Provides classroom support via advocacy skills, note taking, group facilitation, etc.
  • Assists students with organizing and prioritizing classes and assignments 
  • Supports students’ use of assistive devices to enable the use of technology for assignments 
  • Assists students in developing skills in task completion, learning strategies and assistive technology
  • Works with students to identify appropriate work placement opportunities
  • Promotes the CICE program to local and regional agencies, schools, employers, and other community partners
  • Assists with the recruitment, selection, and orientation of eligible students

Qualifications

  • A two (2) year diploma in a relevant field of study such as Developmental Services Worker.   A degree in Social Science considered an asset
  • Minimum of three (3) years’ experience working with persons with developmental disabilities, persons with significant learning barriers
  • Experience working with students in a secondary and/or post-secondary environment is preferred
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience utilizing educational/learning strategies
  • Experience in the teaching/tutoring environment where outcomes were modified to meet learner needs
  • Proficient in the use of computer software (i.e. Microsoft Office, online resources, adaptive learning technologies)
  • Excellent organizational and creative problem-solving skills
  • Superior communication skills with a high degree of professionalism and diplomacy
  • An ability to work within a highly collaborative environment demonstrated through a strong network of contacts with other professionals, agencies, and employers
  • Ability to travel locally for field placements and student recruitment events – a valid driver’s license and clean driving abstract required
