Position Summary
Reporting to the Associate Dean, School of Interdisciplinary Studies, the incumbent will assist students enrolled in the CICE program to maximize their learning potential.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assists in the transition to College life, including liaising between students and College resources (Financial Aid, Health & Equitable Learning supports, Student Advisors)
- Advocates for students’ modified course outcomes, tests and assignments, where required
- Provides classroom support via advocacy skills, note taking, group facilitation, etc.
- Assists students with organizing and prioritizing classes and assignments
- Supports students’ use of assistive devices to enable the use of technology for assignments
- Assists students in developing skills in task completion, learning strategies and assistive technology
- Works with students to identify appropriate work placement opportunities
- Promotes the CICE program to local and regional agencies, schools, employers, and other community partners
- Assists with the recruitment, selection, and orientation of eligible students
Qualifications
- A two (2) year diploma in a relevant field of study such as Developmental Services Worker. A degree in Social Science considered an asset
- Minimum of three (3) years’ experience working with persons with developmental disabilities, persons with significant learning barriers
- Experience working with students in a secondary and/or post-secondary environment is preferred
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience utilizing educational/learning strategies
- Experience in the teaching/tutoring environment where outcomes were modified to meet learner needs
- Proficient in the use of computer software (i.e. Microsoft Office, online resources, adaptive learning technologies)
- Excellent organizational and creative problem-solving skills
- Superior communication skills with a high degree of professionalism and diplomacy
- An ability to work within a highly collaborative environment demonstrated through a strong network of contacts with other professionals, agencies, and employers
- Ability to travel locally for field placements and student recruitment events – a valid driver’s license and clean driving abstract required
