Position Summary
Vancouver Community College is recruiting an instructor for a new 15-hour course: Electrical Project Leadership1 (Chargehand B/ small crewleadership).We’relooking for a Red Seal Electrician in BC with recent field leadership experience (chargehand/foreperson/lead) and a strong passion formentorship and training.
The course is practical and scenario-based—designed to help new supervisors make sound field decisions and build strong habits, rather than “covering content.” Key areas include: supervisory responsibilities and escalation; crew alignment and coaching; safety leadership (tailboards, checklists, lock-out procedures); short-horizon planning/scheduling and time management; clear communication and documentation (daily logs/progress updates); introductory digital tools; and basic site layout reading and red-lining.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Facilitate a 15-hour course using provided applied scenarios, short practice activities, and job-relevant tools/templates.
- Model effective crew leadership: aligning daily goals, coaching, feedback, and mentorship culture.
- Teach safe work leadership practices (tailboards, checklists, critical safety procedures).
- Teach basic planning/scheduling and time management for balancing tool work with supervision.
- Support learners to read and use simple site plans andmark up/red-line changes to communicate field updates.
- Provide learner feedback aligned to course outcomes and practical workplace expectations.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Red Seal Electrician (Construction Electrician) recognized in BC.
- Recent leadership/supervisory experience on electrical projects (e.g., chargehand, foreperson, lead hand, site supervisor).
- Strong safety orientation and ability to teach safe work leadership routines.
- Excellent communication skills, including documentation habits (daily logs/progress updates).
- Comfort using basic digital tools (tablet/phone) for typical supervision tasks.
- Clear commitment to training, mentorship, and learner development.
Preferred Qualifications
- Adult education/teaching/training experience (formal or informal), apprenticeship mentoring, toolbox talks.
- Experience coordinating with other trades and interpreting basic drawings/site plans.
- Field Safety Representative (FSR) certified.
