This position is responsible for teaching students in an assigned field of study using a diverse set of instruction methods and tools. The position develops curriculum, prepares teaching materials, provides assessments of students’ progress. It ensures the proper stewardship of college facilities, equipment and other inventories. The position is also responsible for upholding the College’s policies and procedures and for participating in meetings and events and on committees.

1. Teaches students using a diverse and systematic plan of lectures, presentations, demonstrations, discussion groups, laboratory work, shop sessions, seminars, case studies, field assignments and independent or group projects.
2. Develops curriculum and prepares teaching materials and outlines for courses including audio visual and web-related materials where appropriate.
3. Prepares, administers and marks papers, tests, exams and other assessments to monitor and evaluate students’ progress. Provides detailed feedback on student performance.
4. Assists and provides support to students and potential students by advising on program curricula and career decisions.
5. Provides individualized or group tutorial or remedial instruction to students who require it.
6. Maintains effective stewardship of classroom facilities, equipment, materials, software and tools.
7. Arranges for and supervises independent or group projects, field placements, laboratory work or hands-on training.
8. Adheres to VCC policies and procedures including being available to students and maintaining confidentiality of student information.
9. Participates in departmental and college meetings and events. Consults with other College departments and may serve on committees concerning matters such as budgets, curriculum revision, and course and certificate or diploma requirements.
10. Performs other related duties as required.

• Diploma or degree in Electrical, Electronics, Mechatronics, Automotive Engineering, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant industry experience or Red Seal Automotive Service Technician qualification.
• Three (3) or more years of recent, hands-on industry experience working with EV or advanced automotive electronic systems.
• Demonstrated experience applying high-voltage (HV) safety procedures, including proper use of PPE and Lockout/Tagout practices in EV or industrial environments.
• Demonstrated experience diagnosing and testing EV battery systems, including battery packs, modules, and Battery Management Systems (BMS).
• Strong practical knowledge of power electronics used in EVs, including DC-DC converters, inverters, and motor controllers.
• Experience using electrical and electronic test equipment, including multimeters, oscilloscopes, and diagnostic scan tools.
• Ability to interpret and work from service manuals, wiring diagrams, schematics, and technical documentation.
• Familiarity with CAN-bus–based communication systems, including message capture, decoding, and fault diagnosis.
• Willingness to complete the BC Provincial Instructor Diploma (PID) or equivalent in a timely fashion after employment commences.
• Demonstrated instructional ability and knowledge of principles of adult education.
• Ability to create an inclusive learning environment while supporting a diverse student population.
• Evidence of commitment to teamwork and ongoing professional development.
• Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) licence or eligibility for registration as a P.Eng. in British Columbia, or registration/eligibility as an Engineering Technologist (preferred).
• Experience testing and troubleshooting EV charging systems, including wired and wireless charging technologies (preferred).
• Experience configuring and testing motor controllers and analyzing inverter waveforms (preferred).
• Experience with fault simulation, system-level troubleshooting, and technical reporting (preferred).
• Prior post-secondary teaching experience, including lab-based or applied technical instruction (preferred).
• Completion of recognized high-voltage (HV) safety or electric vehicle (EV) certification training (preferred).
• BC Provincial Instructor Diploma (preferred).
