Job Purpose

The Quality Assurance Analyst 2 is responsible for working closely with IT and business stakeholders to plan, design, develop and execute effective functional system tests to ensure compliance with system requirements, system specifications and with technical and industry standards. The incumbent performs quality assurance testing on large, complex, mission critical applications and systems; however project assignments will vary in number, size and complexity depending on business needs. 

Job Responsibilities

  • Apply Software Quality Assurance testing standards and methodologies to ensure software and applications meet business requirements, meet systems goals, and fulfill end-user requirements, and identify and resolve systems issues.
  • Evaluate, plan, design, develop and deploy testing techniques for new applications, products, and/or enhancements to existing applications throughout their development/product lifecycles.
  • Exhibit and establish a culture of quality software testing.
  • Collaborate with analysts, developers, system owners, Internal Audit and gaming industry regulators in the testing of software programs and applications.
  • Translate business requirements and conceptual designs into well designed and documented test plans, scripts, cases, and scenarios that will determine optimal system performance according to specifications and in accordance with industry standards.
  • Ensure stakeholders underlying needs, concerns and work environment are understood.
  • Work with stakeholders to ensure QA test strategies, plans, cases and scenarios meet requirements.
  • Lead and participate in all phases of system solution testing as required.
  • Conduct various types of application testing as needed, such as system, unit, regression, load and acceptance testing methods.
  • Prepare estimates of time and resources required to perform quality assurance testing on projects.
  • Analyze formal test results in order to discover defects, bugs, errors, configuration issues, and interoperability flaws and collaborate with business and technology specialists to identify corrective actions for test issues.
  • Produce reports and documentation for testing efforts, results, activities, data, logging and tracking.
  • Provide input into the development and management of QA test practices and standards.
  • Stay aware of current and developing trends in software quality assurance, best practices, tools and techniques and software testing technology advances.
  • Participate in assigned education programs as requested.
  • Participate as secondary testers by providing instruction and support with regards to test plans, test cases, and test scripts as required.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Primary Qualifications

  • Completion of a recognized degree or diploma in an IT related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education, certification and experience.
  • A minimum of four years’ experience analyzing and testing software applications, with an emphasis on planning, developing and executing functional systems tests.
  • Strong knowledge of system testing and software quality assurance best practices and methodologies.
  • Ability to work with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook and Visio).
  • Continuous upgrading & learning to remain current in information technology and quality assurance practices.

These competencies are deemed important for the success of the position and organization.

Secondary Qualifications

  • Knowledge of gaming software and hardware is an asset.
  • Experience with issue tracking and automated testing tools is an asset
  • Expertise in Liquor and Gaming Authority of Manitoba (LGA) legislation and technical standards, or other regulated industry, is considered an asset.
  • Accreditation in Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) Service Level Management is an asset.
  • Experience with working in a project environment is an asset.
  • Training and experience in business analysis is an asset.
  • ISTQB certifications in QA practices would be an asset.
  • Previous experience in gaming, retail and/or distribution industries, ERP systems, business analytics, finance or human resources functions are an asset.
  • Enrollment or completion of a recognized software quality testing certificate is an asset.
