Position Details

A friendly team member is required to ensure that all deliveries are managed in a timely and safe manner. Aside from an impeccable driving record, strong customer service, time management and excellent communication skills are necessary to thrive in this position.

Job Summary

Bringing Calgary Public Library’s strategic plan to life, the Delivery Driver provides a full range of support services that shape positive user experiences by ensuring Library materials are transported efficiently and safely.
Duties include driving a company vehicle in a responsible and professional manner to transport and handle library system materials to all locations including loading, unloading and sorting totes; communicating effectively and respectfully with library staff at all locations; preparing paperwork, and performing light vehicle maintenance to ensure the vehicle functions safely.

The hourly rate for this position is $23.94 plus 17% in lieu of benefits. 

Responsibilities and Activities

1.    Create a Welcoming Environment
•    communicating positively with team members, identifying concerns, and proposing solutions
•    anticipating and respond positively to the needs of internal customers, including other team members
•    applying best practices and follow all applicable policies, procedures, and legislation e.g. Alberta Distracted Driving Traffic Laws, etc.  

2.    Apply Operational Procedures
•    completing all physical requirements for loading, transporting, and driving safely without assistance
•    performing daily and weekly maintenance checks of vehicle e.g. tire pressure check, vehicle cleaning, check fluid levels
•    reporting maintenance, safety, and security concerns
•    recording and tracking statistics of daily tote handling, as required

3.    Shape a Positive User Experience
•    sorting and preparing totes by location prior to loading into the company vehicle
•    delivering library system materials and mail according to the route schedule, accurately and on time
•    following safe loading practices to ensure contents do not get damaged or unorganized
•    maintaining focus when driving, parking and while wheeling carts and dollies


4.    Engage with Users
•    representing the Library in a positive, professional, and safe manner while following safe driving standards
•    engaging with members by being welcoming, friendly, and helpful, assisting members directly or referring them to others, as appropriate
•    communicating positively about the Library’s programs and services


Qualifications

  • General High School Diploma or GED 
  • Full Class 5 Driver’s License (not graduated) and clean 5-year Driver’s Abstract
  • Previous experience driving a 1-ton cube van is an asset

Additional Information

Working Conditions:
 

  • Lifting, pushing, and pulling library materials, lifting and carrying over 20 kg
